When starting the process of creating a film we must write up a script. Scripts show the story, the characters, the context and the way around. Films need scripts as people will not know what is going on in production and the studio will loose money from wasted time.
When looking into scripts we look at a range of things. These could be; narrative theories, genre conventions, film analysis, characters, research skills and idea generating.
By looking at Game of Thrones, the audience can infer a range of things. The title "Game of Thrones" could be suggesting a range of things about the show. We could infer the noun "game" as manipulating a situation that could be unfair or challenging, posing a threat to others. When looking at the noun "throne" the audience could also infer that there is some type of royal background or somebody is holding power over other people. "Game of Thrones" could suggest how something is being run in a hierarchy and who is in what position.
When looking at the Game of Thrones opening scene, whilst thinking about what is shown in the scene we could look at the genre. From looking at the scene we could infer it is a type of fantasy period drama, there could also be a sense of thriller in the show based upon the opening scene as it shows suspense, fights, and death. This is shown by the use of language, costuming, and props. The characters speak quite formally and without the use of modern-day slang. Their costumes seem very dark and old-like. People in the modern day would not wear the type of outfits they are wearing. As well as this we could look at how they use horses instead of any other method of transport. Horses can show power and period as the use of them in films is always shown as representing the past.
Conflict is used to create a story. It is used to show a dilemma/multiple dilemmas that will give the structure of the movie. This will show an issue and will alter the rest of the story. The conflict in this opening scene in Game of Thrones is by following one of the characters who runs into lots of body's that has been left in the snow. They have been torn apart and killed in a brutal manner. This shocks the character we are following and

when he goes back to tell the others they are not surprised. The conflict arises when they go to look at what the character is talking about and is met with the supernatural beings that the character had seen initially. This then leads the characters to their deaths, all except the character who initially found the bodies. The scene is left unclear as it fades to darkness and we are not completely sure of the characters ending.
In the post opening credits scene, we are met with new characters. The conflict is shown when the character in the opening scene, who found the bodies and who's "death" was left open ended, is met with the new characters. The first character explains what he had seen in the forest and is next executed by the lord. The conflict is shown when the lord is explaining to his son his duties and why he had to execute the first character. The son is unsure and the audience can infer the boy does not agree. This shows conflict as the boy knows he should agree with his fathers actions but has to as he is his father.
