SMART is an acronym that is used for assessing the situation you are in, what you want to do and how to get there. SMART stands for Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant and Timely.

I want to go to university and in the future would love to do something in and around music. My dream job would be to be a radio presenter, playing music, interviewing musicians and famous people and chatting to the general public. I have an interest in general media ranging from film and television, social media, radio and music and magazines. I would also be interested in tour management or PR - really anything that works around music. These are my SMART targets:

  1. S - I want to study Television and Radio Production at the University of Salford.

M - I Will keep up with my coursework, also taking extra notice of any opportunities that could help me to understand the course more.

A - I need to get a BCC, DMM or 104 - 112 ucas points which will be my aim whilst finishing my courses at Long Road.

R - Doing a Television and Radio course could help give me an understanding of the future I want to go into and also help me look for new opportunities and have a background to excel in.

T - Deadline to apply is 31st of January, based on the fact I will be applying next year I should bear this in mind as the dates will be similar and needed around the same time.

2. S - I want to do a degree on the Music Business at Point Blank Music School in London. This follows so many different details of what I want to do and gives me a much wider knowledge on things in the same field - potentially offering more opportunity's.

M - Whilst taking 120 Media I also take Business which the mix of the both could help me on this course so I will keep up with my course work

A - To get onto this course I need a Merit Pass Pass or CC at A level.

R - This course features 16 different modules and a final project, the mentioned career opportunity's are "Artist manager. Event Programmer. Booking agent. Tour Manager". All of these job roles I find interesting and would like to learn more about going forward.

T - Need to wait until I have my predicted grades however should visit and continue looking over courses and options.

3. S - A degree in Event production at Confetti : institute of creative technologies.

M - I can take additional courses to help expand my understanding of management and planning.

A - To get into the course I need GCSE English and maths grade 4 or above (both of which I have) and 104-112 minimum ucas points.

R - I could do research in the industry and gather more information to understand the process more.

T - Apply ASAP

4. S - Go to Liverpool Hope University and study Film, TV, radio and media production.

M - Complete any extra courses or opportunity's to help get more understanding. I need to finish taking my media course and potentially volunteer at any radio channels.

A - Need a DMM or 112 ucas points

R - Do more research in the area. Need to apply by January 30th for this year so make sure to do it next year.

T - Wait for predicted grades, do personal statement and gain experience.

By using smart targets we can assess our goals and think about the steps towards getting there.

Love how detailed these SMART targets are! The Music Business degree at Point Blank sounds genuinely amazing — that combination of creative and business modules is exactly what the industry needs more of. I was searching for gcse speech topics on career planning when I stumbled on this and it actually inspired me to map out my own goals the same way. Liverpool Hope University is a great shout too especially for media production. Good luck with your applications — radio presenting sounds like such a brilliant career path! 🎙️📚
